Countries over the last decade - Part VII

So - only 10 countries left to count down to. Of the twelve, we have ESC winners of the last decade, others that are just consistent, and some that have had a mix.

#10 - Sweden
[Averaged points: 96.11 points]

The Scandinavian powerhouse has been dethroned. Sweden has had a poor decade by their standards and God forbid, missed the Eurovision Song Contest final in 2010.
But it's not all bad news, they still had 5 of 9 songs in the top 10:
  • Never let you go was 9th
  • Give me your love was 5th
  • It hurts came 6th
  • Invincible came 5th
  • Popular came 3rd
What brought them down were the remaining 4 songs:
  • Las Vegas - 20th
  • The Worrying kind - 18th
  • Hero - 19th
  • La Voix - 21st

#9 - Georgia
 [Averaged points: 106.50 points]

Georgia is a Eurovision newbie, but their results are constantly good.
Four contests - two placings:
  • 9th   - 2010 and 2011
  • 12th - 2007 and 2008

# 8 - Norway
[Averaged points: 127.29 points]

Norway is 8th, but is a picture of inconsistency. Of these last 8 countries, Norway scored a last place in 2004 and on home soil in 2010, their song came 20th.
But forget all that - Norway is the new King/Queen of Scandinavia coming out of the shadow of Sweden this decade.
  • A gentleman called Alexander Rybak is to blame and he scored a monumental ESC victory in 2009.
  • 2003 saw a spectacular 4th
  • 2008; 5th place
  • 2005; 9th
  • 2006; 15th

# 7 - Russia
[Averaged points: 132.8 points]

Mother Russia comes in at seven. The two best placed songs belong to gentleman called Dima Bilan who came second in 2006, before succeeding in 2008.
2 different groups of women also achieved thirds for Russia; t.a.t.u in 2003, while 2007 presented us with Serebro. The rest:
  • 10th - 2002
  • 11th - 2004, 2009 and 2010
  • 15th - 2005
  • 17th - 2011
