DRAW: Semi 2(6)
Portugal annoys me and I have no trouble telling you. Let me tell you my grief. Each year Portugal takes exceptional care in providing a magnificent national final; well presented, lovely staging, very polished. But then they choose some song that in most cases you do not want to listen to again for the eternity of your life.
I am being hard on this year's entry. The song is a classy number, a well sung song, it sounds like a lite version of Senhora do mar but that is under estimating the song again. I like Filipa as well, she seems to have passion for her song.
I hope we see Portugal in the final - if only to hear a language other than English.

Countries over the last decade - Part I
Many things have happened in the last ten years:
41 seperate countries have contested the finals in these 10 years; three of these have appeared once and I've removed them from the deliberations:
- A semi final was introduced replacing the 'in and out', 5 year adherence and other crazy rules.
- A second semi final was introduced when the number of countries escalated to 40+
- Juries, while departed, came back in various forms
- Orchestra still missing

ESC 2011 #25: PORTUGAL - Luta É Alegria - Homens Da Luta

When the Portuguese final came to an end, the audience booed. I don't understand why seeing as the televoters and the juries of Portugal chose this. Possibly because the song is dated and reminds of a time from the 70s, possibly because it is a joke entry.
Even though it is a song with a message, the tune is pleasant and you don't think of it as a song that is a protest. The placards and the megaphone are a classic sign of a protest, a clever idea to add the joy is a struggle in each language. not sure if they had others for the final, but we will never know.
